The Breast Health and Wellness Program

The Breast Health and Wellness Program at OsteoMed II focuses on breast health instead of breast disease. Here's what you should know:

Part I: Thermogram

For 2007, The American Cancer Society estimates more than 176,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Because the incidence is rising, more emphasis than ever is being placed on screening mammograms.  The goal of screening exams for is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms.  NOTE: Mammograms DO NOT prevent cancer....the detect cancer!

According to the National Institutes of Health, PREVENTION is "protecting against disease by preventing it from occurring or reducing the risk of its occurrence."

Digital Infrared Scanning, commonly referred to as breast thermography, is an FDA-approved tool that screens for breast cancer and has been available since 1982. The test is simple, painless, and uses no radiation. An abnormal finding using this technology is the single most important marker of high risk for developing breast cancer, 8 times more significant than a first order family history of the disease. (REF: P. Haehnel, M.D., M. Gautherie, Ph.D. et al; Long-Term Assessment of Breast Cancer Risk by Thermal Imaging. In: Biomedical Thermology, 1980; 279-301.)

When this test is added clinical breast exam, 95% of early stage cancers will be detected at a stage when active intervention can take place. Sadly, few women are aware of this useful technology. State of the art equipment for testing and an individualized treatment plan is now.

Part II: MammaCare Clinical Exam

A physical examination of the breast, whether by a clinician or by the patient, is still the way that the majority of breast cancers and breast lumps are detected. Manual examination of the patient's breast by a doctor, nurse or physician's assistant is referred to as a clinical breast exam, or CBE. When CBE is performed by highly trained fingers, the best possible result can be obtained.

The MammaCare technique for CBE is the result of 10 YEARS of extensive research with funding from the National Cancer Institute. The principal behind the technique was to identify and standardize the most sensitive method for detection of the smallest lesions and changes of tissue texture within the breast. The method is based on the concept that if fingers can be taught to read Braille, should be possible to teach fingers to detect and identify very small changes in breast tissue at a very early stage. If found by the woman, the changes can be brought to the attention of her doctor for further investigation.

MammaCare research was conducted in two phases. First, lump detection was analyzed in laboratory tests to determine if a small lump could be detected in life-like model. What roles do lump hardness, movability, and depth play in determining those limits? Investigators systematically experimented for more than 10 years with various examination procedures. Investigators studied which techniques would enable the examiner to identify the smallest possible changes in the breast tissue. Once that was determined, the second phase of the research was to devise a procedure for teaching reproducible techniques to clinicians and patients. The MammaCare CBE that you receive at OsteoMed II is the benefit of this research.

Sandi Asazawa, physician's assistant, has undertaken the first part of the MammaCare training program. She is attending a 2-day intensive training course in March, 2007. The breast exam that you will receive examines every inch of your breast at three levels: superficial, intermediate and deep levels. The exam can take up to 20 minutes to complete.

Part III: Pro-Active Breast Health Program

Example of Low Risk Individualized Life Time Wellness Program

Anatomy: Structural changes

Physiology: Thermographic findings and recommendations

Energy: Mental/emotional connections to breast health

Biochemistry:

Discuss life style and diet

Recommend unique blood tests and/or urine chemistry testing

Supplements: Lifetime Health Program

A series of supplements will be recommended for low, intermediate and high risk thermographic findings. Three different programs have been developed for different risks. The success of your program will be followed by serial thermograms.
