NON-INVASIVE TEST Of
THYROID FUNCTION and MEDICATION REGULATION

The small gland located in the front of the neck just above the notch in the collarbone is your THYROID. It is is responsible for your metabolism.  The thyroid regulates your ability to maintain a warm body temperature and to convert the food you eat into energy. In part, that is why the classic symptoms of low thyroid function, or hypothyroid, are: Widespread metabolic slowdown, including cold hands and cold feet, constipation, slow heart rate, dry skin, dry hair, difficulty losing weight and fatigue.

Other symptoms can include:
  • Dry and thinning hair (including eyebrow hair)
  • Depression and memory loss
  • Low libido
  • Abnormal menstrual cycles
  • Anemia

Most of the diseases that plague women involve an endocrine imbalance involving the thyroid.

Mild, or subclinical hypothyroidism, is missed by routine testing. If you have a normal TSH and an a normal FT4 level, most doctors are reluctant to treat you, even if you have every symptom of low thyroid. That is the reason more than 40 Million Americans are suffering from this untreated condition. In addition to feeling poorly, subclinical hypothyroidism has been linked with high cholesterol levels, atrial fibrillation and osteoporosis in both men and women. Subclinical hypothyroidism is an important independent risk factor for heart disease in women.

Normal laboratory tests can leave many women without appropriate thyroid therapy. One of the long standing clinical tests for thyroid dysfunction has been a delayed Achilles tendon reflex. Prior to 1974, when the TSH became routinely used to screen for low thyroid function, doctors routinely used this simple reflex test to diagnose and treat hypothyroidism.

The Thyroflex  Test is a specialized device that can find subclinical thyroidism and can determine if you are on the correct dose of medication. A tendon in the forearm, from the brachioradialis muscle, is used instead of the Achilles tendon reflex for easy testing while you're seated comfortably in a chair.

  • No Blood Draws
  • No Invasive Procedures
  • No Pain

The instrument consists of a reflex hammer connected to a computer which measures the time between the strike and when your wrist flicks upward.  If the time is delayed, adjustments need to be made. A delayed reflex time indicates low thyroid function at the cellular level. The computer program helps allows us to adjust your medication based on your physiological function, not just on blood tests.

A THYROFLEX TEST is $49
(office visit fees apply.)
